250mb just in 40sec?? Shocked

yes it is!! sampai me aso wan think to change this redtone or nt...and kuogami aso got go ask the redtone wimax booth located in wisma last tues...the guy explain to him tat this wimax is different from streamyx...why??

- ya..using satellite wireless modem receiver, even at raining....the full bar is 3 but its stay at 2...still can download around 700 kb/s...

- if the 1st port is full, they automaticlly change u to 2nd port as the 1st port full( he didnt mention how many connection  per port  la..) so u stay at the same place and will not being interfere by others...and u will get the best download speed..

- oni at Rm138 but u can hav a full speed 1MB line..why not?? streamyx 1Mb gives u 100kb or maybe 400kb max!!! but this one can reach 1000kb=1MB!!!!!!!!!!

After asking 2 frens of mine abt this wimax service, currently no ppl complain, but this redtone wimax had already in Sabah starting from last year OCT '08 if im not mistaken, bcos i saw the booth when i was in the pc fair for logitech xD, i tried the speed using my phone..walao,surfing youtube with 10min video load within seconds and i can watched already xD~!But tat time was soooo expensive, RM250 per month, 1st time regiester nid paid Rm6xx ++++~ xD

250mb just in 40sec?? Shocked

this may sound silly
just asking 250MB or 250Mb? byte or bit?

cuz 250 MB in 40sec in Malaysia is totally impossible for home-user internet connection (office.business user i dont dare to say la).

Heres the math,
250MegaByte in 40 second equals
6.25MegaByte in 1 second which equals to
50MegaBit per second connection which still not yet possible for Malaysia's lousy internet.

Even with TM's and other company's HSBB project coming up they only saying giving us up to 10mbit/s connection.
and eventhough the theoretical maxspeed is at 70Mbit/s but to increase wider coverage they have to reduce speed. Most Wimax operator operate at around 0.5Mbit/s to 3Mbit/s downlink and uplink. But, there are no known examples of WiMAX services being delivered at bit rates over around 40 Mbit/s

So, my conclusion is Redtone is still experimenting and show off their internet backbone. But I do pray redtone can increase their competitive with screwmyx.

Heres, the problem with most Malaysian ISP.
1) Coverage very limited or signal weak or far from the nearest DSLAM for stable connection
2) OVERSELL TOO MUCH (our internet connection is actually shared internet bandwidth among all of us. We don't get dedicated bandwidth cuz it costs abt RM500 per megabit [Redtone's BizPro is consider a real dedicated line and its gurantee bandwidth, service, availability, etc thru SLA or service level agreement])
It is believed that Celcom signs up approximately 20,000 broadband users in Central region (meaning KL area) every month(not official) but they don't upgrade their network bandwidth to cope with this extra 20k customers every month.
3) Not enough bandwidth too handle peak hours (very true for Celcom and Maxis)
4) Too few internet backbone carrier (Primary is TM and than we have Jaring, TIME, OPTIMUS, etc )
5) Government controlling and limiting license to provide the service

I was using P1 in KL. My experience with it is...  Vomit

It was good for the 1st month... then it got really bad. You can read about it

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=915175&view=findpost&p=25947309

all I can say is... WiMAX is still not an established technology (at least not in MY). and big companies are offering this test product on a final product price.

currently I'm on Maxis 3G (not Maxis BB)

so far so good... but got ppl complains also~lah... it's really depending on your location.

I'm going back to Streamyx... it's the BEST among the Worst ISP... then utilising tunneling/VPN for a more stable connections.  Banzai

ADDED: I hope RedTONE will bring good things to Sabahan... hopefully not another $$ squeezer on us.

wimax, this technology is still consider new. But like most wireless ISP, wimax is also very area dependent. Its not just signal strong enought or not but also how ppl are flooding or crowded in 1 tower or how much bandwidth does the ISP have to cater its user or is there any abuser user using the tower u using or is the tower have problem or signal not good enough, etc

I have to agree maxis 3g is ok but maxis wirelessbb completely SUX! Mad Since, I arrive to KL.

In KL, theres 3 wimax provider, the most advertise and widest wimax coverage P1 WImax from Packet One than the just started and limited area, Amax Wimax from AsiaSpace(actually I'm interest in them abit more cuz they are license to lay internet backbone also), and than for only commercial or office user for now Airzed Wimax from Airzed (previously also wifi internet provider

In sabah and sarawak, Redtone is previously a leased line provider but i do hope redtone can bring new life to our hellish internet

heres some light back to redtone's wimax

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government can revoke the licences of the three companies that have yet to provide the required WiMAX wireless service throughout the country, Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission had been asked to evaluate the three companies -- YTL e-Solutions Bhd, Asiaspace Dotcom Sdn Bhd and REDtone International Bhd -- that had not lived up to the terms of the licences issued to them, he said.

“They have to prove by the end of the year that they are able to provide wireless services, especially to Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

Rais said all companies responsible for providing wireless services must achieve a 25% broadband penetration by the end of this year, and up to 50% by the end of next year.

On whether their licences would be revoked, he said the Government has the right to do so under the licensing terms, but had to first issue warnings to them.

“We have given them warnings to prove why their licences should not be revoked by the end of the year if they do not fulfil their responsibility as required by their licences,” he said.

Four companies were awarded the 2.3GHz spectrum, allowing them to offer wireless broadband services using WiMAX technology, in 2007: Green Packet Bhd, REDtone, YTL e-Solutions and Asiaspace.

So far only Green Packet subsidiary Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd has rolled out its service extensively, while YTL e-Solutions and Asiaspace have had limited rollouts.

Green Packet, YTL e-Solutions and Asiaspace are licensed to offer WiMAX services in the peninsula, while REDtone’s area of operation is Sabah and Sarawak.

WiMAX, which stands for World Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a digital communications system that allows wireless broadband access to the Internet.

I'm guessing the latency is not suitable for online FPS games, guys?
