About 1,000 people converged at the shopping complex to take part in KL Freeze in Unison, the city’s first major "freeze" project, where participants were required to stop moving from 3.35pm to 3.39pm.
“We organised this because we wanted to show that human beings, not just Malaysians, may all be different people with different views of things, but they can get together and do something in unison,” said mastermind Zain HD.
Fans of popular online video site YouTube might have seen clips of similar events around the world – most significantly at Trafalgar Square in London and Grand Central Station in New York, which had 200 participants.
Word on the Kuala Lumpur version of the event was spread mainly through online networking website Facebook. Those interested were told to gather at Lot 10 shopping complex on Jalan Bukit Bintang and await further instructions on “orange pieces of paper” as the final location had to be a secret to avoid the event being foiled.
The participants had obviously showed up with ideas on how they were going to pose, as some even brought props including umbrellas, ice cream and even Post-It notes stuck on their body promoting their websites.
Hugh Koh, 23, showed up because the event promised to be “something different”.
“I’ve seen it done on YouTube, and we did something similar in college before but then, I was the videographer,” the Limkokwing University of Technology architecture student said.
“This time, I joined in, and it was quite hard freezing for four minutes!”
Even local personalities joined in the fun. Among those seen included Red FM deejays Will Quah, Shazmin Shamsuddin and Tiny Terry, choreographer Michael Voon and actor Razif Hashim.
An "official" video of the event is expected to be posted up within a week at
www.randomalphabets.com, but blogger The Zestful One has posted some clips here as well.
